The famous Torres Brothers circus is ‘in town’ in Las Flores, Masaya in Nicaragua. This might be a big boost for tourism in Nicaragua, or at least in the local community. ’Come on in and see what’s happening. Pay the price, get your tickets for the show….’ That would be C$10 ($0.45) a head and bring your family and friends!

Pagá el boleto, conseguí tus boletos para el evento….’ Cuesta C$10 ($0.45) por persona…y traé tu familia y amigos!!!
How much did you pay for your last haircut? I got mine cut today in Las Flores, Masaya, Nicaragua for C$20 (less than a buck). In the bigger cities, in a more conventional barber shop, you might pay C$25-50 (especially if you are a white foreigner). Overall, it’s definitely worth it to get your buzz here in Nicaragua before you go back to where ever you are from.

Claro, en las barberías en las ciudades más grandes, quizá tengás que pagar C$25-50 (peor si sos chele). Definitivamente vale la pena cortarte el pelo en Nicaragua antes de partir al lugar de donde vengas.

As could be expected from an excellent coffee producing country like Nicaragua, there are some nice little coffee shops scattered around the country. In Masaya, we found this one called “El Esfuerzo”. Check out the nice selection of pastries and the coffee machine that served up a strong macchiato (C$15 or $0.75).

La pizza está riquísima – doble tocino. Comí todo con un té helado. Cuesta casí $7 (C$145). Hay dos Papa John’s en Nicaragua: en Las Galerías de Santo Domingo y en Masaya.
Here is another savory lunch at Papa John’s in Nicaragua. It’s the pizza and salad combo (between 11-4 p.m.). The salad was probably better in many one’s opinion (I took off the tomatos and cucumbers). The pizza was great – doble bacon!! I ate it all and washed it down with an iced tea. It costs almost $7 (C$145). There are two Papa John’s in Nicaragua: in the Galerias de Santo Domingo and in Masaya.
Check out these guys making baskets in El Valle de La Laguna, Masaya, Nicaragua. They start by splitting bamboo and end up with those baskets. On the wholesale market they go for about C$10 each ($0.45). Did someone say ‘Walmart’?

One of the best parts about Nicaraguan tourism is the food. This is as real as it gets. We are in El Comején, Masaya in Nicaragua this week, basically camping out. I would like to share my breakfasts with you for the next few days, provided by locals.

Here is a beautiful jewel that makes up part of the landscape so important for tourism in Nicaragua: the Apoyo Lagoon in Catarina, Masaya. The Glass family, hailing from New Milford, Connecticut, was taken aback by the beauty. The other picturess are on the highway back to Granada, Nicaragua, near Caña de Castilla in a place called El Hormigón. Can you see Hanah in the right hand corner of the picture?
